"Tukul"... means Grass thatched among the Konso & Gamo people of Southern Ethiopia. The studio Tukul is intentionally designed to create an emotional connection with the local people through architecture.
Our signature "Tukul" architecture room design constructed in conical (rondavel) shapes using natural materials, such as wooden poles and grass or straw thatching makes these rooms stunning! The walls are often made from stone, creating a sturdy and insulating structure. The roofs are steeply sloped to ensure rainwater runoff and are crafted with intricate patterns using the savannah grass as the thatching material of choice.
To top it up, our interior designed rooms and suites exude warmth and luxury coutersy of the unique craftmanshiop of the Konso & Gamo local people. The hand crafted Juniper tree furniture brings back the spirit of an epoch long before the age of mass production. Each piece is a distinct creation. As individual as you are and a celebration of a time-honoured skill.
From pure cotton from Dorze region, we have spun woven bespoke rugs, bringing our theme of elegance and comfort right down to the floor of our spacious personal havens.
